November in the City of Champions

The quiet of winter begins with November entering Edmonton with howling winds, swirling precipitation, and multiple complaints pertaining to awful road conditions. Usually, as soon as All Saint’s Day is upon us, the city is already blanketed in snow and kissed in ice. The only reason to dare tread outside would be to go Christmas shopping … and that’s a daunting task in and of itself. To start putting a little joy into your winter season, take a look at these fantastic events! (They sure beat braving shopping at the mall!)

    Canadian Finals Rodeo

    Location: Rexall Place
Head down to Northlands to take part in the CFR, a great event that began in 1974 and has only grown over the years! Prior to 2006, only Canadian residents were allowed to compete, but now international contestants are eligible so long as they qualify, making this one incredible world-wide rodeo! See the world’s best in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, and more things that sound alarmingly risqué ... but aren’t! Bring your Stetson, plaid, and cowboy boots, Edmonton! Tickets are available online, at any Ticketmaster location, and by phone (1-855-780-3000). See www.cfr.ca for more details!

Location: Service at McDougall United Church, walk at City Hall
The most monumental day of the month falls on November 11th, when Canada commemorates those who have made, are making, and will continue to make sacrifices in armed conflict. An Interdenominational Prayer Service will be held at McDougall United Church. Not only will this be a time to reflect on the loss war brings and honor all peacemakers, but will also serve to remind us of the preciousness, delicateness, and importance peace has in our world. After, participants will gather at City Hall for a Public Prayer Walk for Peace. The walk will have four stops along the way for remembrance, reflection, and prayer led by multiple faiths in the community. All are invited to take part. For only $2 you’ll have access to a massive trade show with over 140 vendors! Expect anything and everything to suit all your wish list needs. Kitchenware, jewelry, gourmet food, beauty products, and much more will be available to get your jump on Christmas. Even Santa will be in attendance! Bring the family! 1. I'll go to the Rodeo! I've already got the plaid! Now I just need a plane ticket to Canada!

    Well done, as always, Larysia!

  2. Oddly enough, I've never been to a rodeo! Maybe I should change that this year if only to make immature comments on the events I watched.

Come on up! It's chilly. You'll need lots and lots of plaid. Haha!

    Thanks and take care!
